Facebook ads are certainly controversial within the music industry due to the limited success that most people have with them. Despite what people think, they are proven to be a great way of growing your fan base, increasing engagement, and getting more sales. In this article, we’re going to discuss how you can grow a Facebook audience to 10k followers with only $100.

When speaking to producers about the advertising platform, many people seem to feel as if it doesn’t work because it didn’t work for them. Obviously, that’s just producers just making excuses as to why they can’t use the platform. Just like Elton John can generate millions of dollars from singing and playing the piano, a good marketer can also generate high revenues from Facebook ads. The person running the ads essentially has to have great knowledge of the platform in order to get the best results. Of course, anyone can run an ad. But, it takes true skill to be able to generate consistent leads, sales, and growth of an audience.

If you are targeting the wrong people, they won’t engage with your brand. But in contrast, If you spend hundreds of hours learning the fine details of the platform in order to target the correct audience every single time, you will be very pleased with the results. The Facebook advertising platform basically allows you to target the users most likely to engage with your content. For example, if you are an EDM producer looking to do shows around Australia & New Zealand, you can target 18-30-year-old people with an interest in EDM that live in locations within close proximity to your performances. Done correctly, this will easily convert to ticket sales for when you go and do shows in those locations.

Once you have opened the ad platform, click engagement, and then page likes. This will allow you to form the basis of your ad in order to promote your page. Sticking with the previous example, you’d want to target fans within Oceania in order to create a strong presence in the region. This would cover the likes of Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, etc. Or alternatively, you can just target individual countries. Although you are paying more per follower than you would in less developed countries, people will be in the exact locations you want to establish your brand – and so the slightly higher cost is definitely worth it. Next, you should decide the demographics of your audience. If they are potentially attending your future shows, you’ll want to ensure that they are actually old enough to enter the club. Therefore, an age range of 18-30 tends to perform pretty well in terms of audience reaction and response.

Once your targeting is set, you should focus on the budget. As a general rule of thumb, the higher the budget is during a shorter period of time, the better the results will be. For example, running an ad at $50 per day for 3 days usually tends to perform better than a budget of $150 for the month. This is partly because the ad is able to gain a lot of momentum. As Facebook sees the ad (hopefully) performing well, it will quickly establish what type of users are reacting well and will show it to more similar people. Likewise, different countries have different prices for advertising. In North America, it’s often very expensive to run ads because you are competing with lots of other marketers to get your ad into people’s news feeds. Whilst in the likes of Asia and South America, the cost of reaching people is much lower due to the lower competition. Although they may not have as much money to spend as an American audience, they are still absolutely great for building a brand if you simply want loyal and engaged followers.

The bid cap is an extremely important tool when running Facebook advertisements. This feature allows you to not overspend if an ad performs badly. For example, you could cap the bid to $0.05 per like. Running a $50 ad budget per day, that would ensure a minimum of 1000 likes for the money you spend. There have been many examples within the music industry of people spending too much on one page like simply because they did not enable the bid cap. By enabling it, it essentially allows you to get the most efficient results for your money.

Finally, it’s worth talking about the creative side of the ad that you are running. From experience, photos tend to reach more people and have a higher conversion rate when running page growth ads. However, videos are definitely better for growing brand loyalty and boosting engagement. Therefore, a good recommendation would be to use a photo during the growth ad and to run a video advertisement against your new followers. This would essentially attract people to your page so your follower count increases, and subsequently increase engagement via the video advertisement.

As you become more skilled in creating Facebook ads, you will be able to optimize our budget efficiently and ultimately achieve 10k fans for around $100. However, your results are obviously totally dependant on the quality of your content and how good your targetting against the audience etc is. Facebook is a truly spectacular platform that will achieve amazing results for you. The only question you have to ask yourself is whether you are actually good enough to run the ads and generate great results.
